Austin’s Best Neighborhoods for Luxury Living
Austin is the nation’s fastest growing city. The booming Texas state capitol is now home to several Fortune 500 companies, and real estate prices are rising quickly. Many consider Austin to be the most hip city in the southwest, but what makes it truly special is the many varied neighborhoods that give Austin its unique ambiance and charm. When it comes to properties, those interested in moving here will have a variety of options. There are stylish and contemporary high-end downtown apartments, charming quiet suburbs and opulent gated communities. Although the housing choices are almost endless, you can find many upscale ones in five of Austin’s best luxury neighborhoods.
Stylish properties, immaculate lawns and a whole bunch of historic buildings are some of the features of one of Austin’s most esteemed residential neighborhoods. Tarrytown is perched upon the Colorado River and is just a stone’s throw from downtown Austin, Texas, a five-minute drive east. Reed Park is the area’s main attraction and has a huge outdoor swimming pool. It is also home to one of Austin’s most popular golf courses, the Lions Municipal Golf Course.
Nestled just south of the Colorado River, this leafy neighborhood of rolling hills is a haven of peace and tranquility from the hustle and bustle of downtown. Barton Hills feels more like a town than a neighborhood with its high-end boutiques and gourmet restaurants. However, the Barton Creek Greenbelt means that residents are never far from nature and its natural spring is hugely popular for bathing during the hotter months.
The first thing you’ll see on Austin’s skyline is all those cranes. The downtown area is undergoing a construction boom and residents here enjoy the best of the city’s cultural offerings right on their doorstep including the world famous vibrant music scene. The outstanding restaurants, abundant cultural activities and luxury shopping are all easily accessible here. There’s a huge selection of high-rise prestigious condos under construction that will impress even the most discerning house-hunters.
One of Austin’s most sought after neighborhoods is also the one that helped establish its reputation as such a unique city. Travis Heights is a historic and wealthy district located in the southern portion of the city alongside the Colorado River. It has some of Austin’s most elegant and stately properties that date back to the early 20th century mixed with newly-built contemporary designer homes. Some of the city’s best schools are located here, including Travis Heights High School on Oltorf Road. You’re never far from nature around here with the Blunn Creek Greenbelt going through the heart of the district; either side of the winding roads are lined with oak trees.
Also known as the Historic District and located immediately west of Austin’s downtown, Clarksville is the oldest neighborhood in the city dating back to 1870 and retains a lot of character after undergoing significant gentrification. With high-end dining and trendy bars, it’s now on the radar for discerning home buyers looking for a location that is rapidly becoming one of Austin’s upscale areas. It is perfect for those who like quaint and charming bungalows although there is a scattering of newer buildings in the area too. It’s also the home of the Whole Foods supermarket chain, which started life here in the 1980s.
