The first class 1 racing venue in Texas this park boasts of 2 restaurants, Grandstand suites, a 1-mile track, 8 bars, a Celebration Suite, a Director’s Suite, a San Jacinto Suite and a 7-furlong turf course for the horses.  The course which hosts two live meets every year is also used to hold concerts and fairs when no races are going on. The track hosts American quarter horse races  between March and may while the thoroughbred horse races are held between January and early march.

Lone Star Park
Lone Star Park was established in 1997 and has changed ownership several times with its current owners, Global Gaming Solutions, embarking on a massive upgrade of the facility. Currently lone Star Park has 32 barns, which can accommodate up to 1600 horses. The upgraded grandstand is a state of the art facility with the ability to comfortably accommodate up to 8,000 spectators. Lone star covers 315 acres which include a pavilion for simulcasting, a one mile track with a seven turf-long track and a 1.6km dirt oval. The track also has separate meets for quarter horse racing and thoroughbred racing. Some of the graded stakes at the lone star park include Dallas turf cup, lone star derby, Texas mile stakes and lone star park handicap.

Retama park
Retama park offers both quarter horse races and thoroughbred races with superb simulcasting from around the country all year round. Ratema park is a relatively large course with a sitting capacity of about 20000. The course has a one mile oval track and 7 furlong turf course with horses racing counterclockwise round the oval. Thoroughbred horse races begin on September with races such as the Chick Lang Jr Memorial Stakes, Retama Turf Breeders’ Cup, Darby’s Daughter Texas Stallion Stakes, Lakeway Stakes and Fiesta Mile Stakes taking centre stage. Some of the wagering options offered in Retama park include Pick 3, Daily Double and Superfecta. Retama park offers a very conducive atmosphere for a family outing or an outing with friends who share the passion.

The Gillespie county fair in Fredericksburg Texas has been running for over one hundred in the county grounds and is a fun filled fair for horse racing lovers. The fair is held between august 23 and 26 in the county fair grounds. In addition to horse racing other activities in the fair include golfing, fishing, swimming and softball which are held in the lady bird park which is adjacent to the county fair grounds. Being the oldest horse racing event in the state of Texas the races tend to have an air of old country glamour and sophistication. The county Fair course offers both thoroughbred races and American quarter races. With the city airport being right next to the Fair grounds those with private planes can fly to the race course.
