3 Luxury Hotels on South Padre Island

Way on the southern tip of Texas lies a little known tropical island oasis called South Padre Island. South Padre Island is a relatively unknown vacation destination in the U.S., but travelers there have raved about the beaches – the sand is beautiful and clean, the Gulf waters are warm and clear, and the shore is overflowing with both opportunities for relaxation and fun. South Padre Island is best known as a draw for families, but a visit there doesn’t mean you have to skimp on luxury. In fact, the island is home to many gorgeous and luxurious resorts and hotels, where visitors can relax and be pampered or enjoy the entertainment of a tropical island getaway. Read below to find out more about 3 of the best.

1.    Peninsula Island Resort & Spa
Peninsula Island Resort & Spa has long been considered the most upscale lodging choice on the island. The Peninsula Island is set on its own beach, where guests at the hotel can enjoy a less crowded and more serene strip of the island’s white sand along the Gulf Coast. Every guest room opens to a private balcony and has a view of the pool (or the ocean and the pool). The hotel offers guests free wireless internet, satellite cable for televisions, and a refrigerator in every room. The hotel is also home to a full service spa; the spa features Aveda products and offers a full host of services from massages to waxing to body scrubs. The Peninsula Island is a great place to stay put for a relaxing vacation on South Padre’s beach, or to get to many popular destinations nearby – like Schlitterbahn Amusement Park, Long Island Village Golf Course or Port Isabel Light House.  Rooms at the Peninsula Island range from about $400 to $650 a night, during the summer.

2.    Isla Grand Beach Resort
Visitors to the Isla Grand Beach Resort rave about the opportunities for activities and relaxation there. The hotel was recently purchased from the Radisson chain, and it was completely refurbished. The hotel offers standard rooms with beach and ocean views, and the rooms in the hotel’s tower are two-bedroom condos; they are well appointed and feature two full bathrooms, a full kitchen, and a spacious living and dining area. Each room has a private patio or balcony that looks out over the gardens or beach. The real draw to the Isla Grand Beach Resort are the recreation facilities; the hotel is host to a restaurant, bar, 2 pools, 4 tennis courts, 2 jacuzzis, sand volleyball courts, nightclub, gift shop as well as lots of water sport options on its white sand beach.  Standard rooms at the Isla Grand start at around $275 for a standard room, and they range  up to $500 for a room in the tower.

3.    Pearl South Padre
The Pearl South Padre is great for the traveler who likes luxury in a laid-back setting. The rooms at Pearl South Padre have balconies overlooking the ocean and each features a refrigerator, flat screen TV, and complimentary wireless internet. Visitors rave about the sprawling, lagoon-like swimming pool, which features a swim up bar and poolside dining. Recreation activities at the Pearl South Padre include windsurfing, surfing, parasailing, and beach volleyball, and the hotel is home to a fully-equipped, upscale Core Performance Fitness Center. The Pearl South Padre is also convenient to the nearby South Padre Island Golf Club, for guests interested in playing a round. The resort is home to a celebrate spa — the sapphire spa — which features an open-air facility with a large selection of services – from massages to water rituals to nail care.  Rates at the Pearl start at about $300 per night and range all the way up to $2500 a night for the luxury suite.
